Add Google Analytics and Conversion Tracking to Your Sierra Site
Connect Google Analytics GA4 to your Sierra site and track lead conversions with ease.
Why This Feature Matters
-
Enables accurate website performance and lead tracking
-
Required for integrating with advertising platforms like Google Ads
-
Supports conversion optimization through lead event monitoring
Step-by-Step Instructions
✅ Create a New Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Property
-
Log in to your Google Analytics account.
-
Navigate to Admin (gear icon in bottom-left).
-
Click Create Property and complete the setup wizard.
-
Create a Web Data Stream when prompted.
-
Copy the Measurement ID (format: G-XXXXXXXXXX).
-
Go to your Sierra CRM → Gear Icon → Integrations → Google Analytics
-
Paste your Measurement ID in the provided field.
⚠️ Do not paste the full GA script — Sierra only needs the Measurement ID.
✅ Upgrade a Universal Analytics (UA) Property to GA4
-
A new GA4 property will be created that uses the existing tracking code
-
Both properties run in parallel until UA sunsets on July 1, 2023
-
No Sierra updates required unless you plan to use the new GA4 property only
✅ Mark “Lead” as a Conversion in GA4
-
Go to Engagement → Events in GA
-
Locate the event called Lead
-
Click the three-dot menu and select Mark as conversion
Note: You must have at least one Lead event before this option appears.
Best Practices
-
Only use one GA property on your Sierra site
-
Share GA or Facebook Pixel access with third-party advertisers instead of letting them install separate tracking
-
Ensure your Measurement ID (not Property ID) is used
-
Resize your email/flyer header image to 700x160px to avoid distortion
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Issue: GA not tracking conversions
Fix: Verify you used the Measurement ID, not the GA4 Property ID
Issue: You pasted full GA script into your site
Fix: Remove full script. Sierra requires only the Measurement ID via Integrations
Issue: Events not being marked as conversions
Fix: Wait for the first ‘Lead’ event to fire before trying to mark it as a conversion
Issue: Using Google Tag Manager (GTM)
Fix: GTM is not supported on Sierra sites. Use native GA integration only
