This is a third-party integration. Ruuster owns and maintains its own app, so screens, menu labels, and navigation paths on their side may change without notice. If any Ruuster step in this article doesn't match what you see in your account, follow Ruuster's own documentation or contact their support team as the source of truth.
Why This Feature Matters
Ruuster gives your agents a branded mobile app experience while keeping Sierra as the central CRM. Once connected, this integration lets you:
- Move clients off third-party portals and onto your own branded app
- Track in-app behavior, like property views and chat messages, directly in Sierra
- Automate app invites based on client behavior or lead status
- Sync saved searches so clients get push alerts from the app and email alerts from Sierra
Before You Start
You'll need an active Ruuster account to complete this setup. If you don't have a branded Ruuster app yet, visit www.ruuster.com.
Connect Ruuster to Sierra
Step 1: Get your Sierra API key
- In Sierra, go to Gear Icon → Integrations → Sierra Interactive

- Click Copy to copy your API key
Step 2: Add the key in Ruuster
- Log into your Ruuster app
- Go to Account Settings (upper right)
- Scroll to CRM Integration and choose Sierra Interactive
- Paste your API key and click Insert
You'll see a green "Connection Established" message once the integration is live.
Important: The email address used in your Ruuster account must match the corresponding user's email in Sierra, or activity won't sync correctly.
How Client Activity Shows Up in Sierra
Once connected, client actions taken in the Ruuster app push into Sierra automatically:
| Activity in Ruuster | Where it appears in Sierra |
|---|---|
| Chat messages, article views, vendor referrals | Notes on the lead's profile |
| Property searches, app invites, onboarding, and other behavior events | Tags, used to trigger follow-up automations |
| Viewed and favorited homes | Properties section of the lead profile |
Tags triggered by Ruuster activity:
appClientInviteSent, appClientOnboarded, appViewedProperty, appPropertySearch, pageViewedInApp, clientRequestPreferredVendorContact, clientInfoUpdatedFromApp, clientReassignedFromApp, clientHasSignedUpOnLandingPage, appChatMessage, appFavoriteProperty, appSavedSearch
Data syncs from the app to Sierra in real time.
Automating App Invites
Manual invite:
- Open the client's profile in Sierra

- In the Tags section, click the blue + icon
- Click Create Tag

- Name the tag
App Invite
For step-by-step tag creation guidance, see Tags Manager: Adding, Editing, and Organizing Lead Tags.
Automated invite via Action Plans:
Include the App Invite tag as a trigger inside an Action Plan to send the invite automatically based on client behavior or lead status, instead of tagging leads one at a time. See Maximize Lead Engagement with Traditional Action Plans or Scale Your Lead Follow-Up with Fully Automated Action Plans to build one.
Saved Search Sync
Any saved search created in Sierra replicates into the client's Ruuster app automatically. This lets clients:
- Get push notifications from the Ruuster app
- Receive email alerts from Sierra
- Manage everything from a single CRM record, regardless of which channel they engage through
For guidance on building the searches themselves, see Creating Saved Searches with IntelliSearch.
