Ensure Your Listings Are Mapped Correctly: Overcome Mapping Challenges
Learn how to fix and verify your listing's map location effectively.
Why This Feature Matters
Mapping issues can frustrate both you and potential buyers. Many REALTOR® boards do not allow latitude and longitude data in the RETS feed, which means that even if you’ve located your listing accurately in your MLS® admin, that location might not be transmitted to us. This leads to difficulties in displaying your listings accurately on our maps, which can impact visibility and lead generation.
Our platform offers a solution: we utilize various geo-coding services, such as Google and Yahoo!, to locate your listing based on its address. While this method works well in many cases, there are instances where these services may provide incorrect locations or fail to return a location altogether. This is especially true for new construction or rural properties where databases may not be up-to-date. For those listings we cannot automatically map, we’ve developed tools that enable you to manually correct the location so your listings appear correctly on the map.
Step By Step Instructions
To add or correct the location of one of your listings on the map, follow these steps:
-
Login to the Sierra Admin
-
Go to Listings in the Main Navigation
-
Locate Your Listing on the Featured Listings Page Once there, search for your listing using the "Search by MLS® #" field if needed.
-
Edit Your Listing Click the pencil icon in the Action column to edit the listing details.
-
Update the Map Marker Position Scroll down to the "Update Map Marker Position" section. Use the plus controls to zoom in and drag the map until the correct location is near the center.
-
Place the Map Pin Click on the map to place the pin on the listing location. You can adjust it by dragging if necessary.
-
Save the Location After positioning, click "Click here to save when finished" in the yellow box below the map. Your new location will be saved, allowing correct display on your site.
-
Update Street View Position and Angle If available, adjust the Street View angle and direction for optimal display on your listing. Note that Street View may not be accessible in all areas, particularly rural locations.
-
Click the back button to return to the main Listings page On that page, you can use the "Mapped?" column to see if there are any other listings which have not yet been mapped -- a red X will be displayed for those listings -- and you can use the same process to correctly map those listings.
