How to Change Nameservers in Namecheap

This article walks you through how to update your domain’s nameservers in Namecheap when Sierra Interactive requests the change.

Why DNS & Nameservers Matter

Nameservers determine where your domain points on the internet. Updating them correctly ensures your website, email, and lead delivery continue to function properly.

Sierra Interactive may ask you to change your nameservers during:

  • Initial website setup
  • Domain transfers
  • Infrastructure or security updates
  • DNS-related troubleshooting

Troubleshooting & Common Questions

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • I don’t see the Custom DNS option
Make sure you are managing the correct domain and logged into the correct Namecheap account.

  • My site or email stopped working after the change
Temporary disruption can occur during propagation. If issues persist beyond 24–48 hours, contact Sierra Support.

  • I accidentally entered the wrong nameserver
Update the entry immediately and notify Sierra Support so they can verify the configuration.

  • Do I need to confirm the change with Sierra?
Yes. Reply to your support ticket confirming the nameserver update.

  • How often will I need to do this?
Most clients only change nameservers once unless switching domains or registrars.

  • Can I revert the change myself?
Do not revert changes without contacting Sierra Support first.
