Correcting Featured Listing Map Locations with Map Marker Position

Manually place or fix the map pin in the Sierra Interactive CRM for your listings when automatic geocoding maps them incorrectly or not at all.

Summary

When your MLS data feed doesn't include location coordinates, Sierra maps your listings automatically by address. This article explains why that occasionally fails and how to manually correct a listing's map location using the Update Map Marker Position tool.

Why This Feature Matters

  • A listing pinned in the wrong spot or missing from the map entirely is invisible to buyers searching by location, which costs you visibility and leads.
  • Many REALTOR® boards don't include latitude and longitude in the MLS data feed, so Sierra locates listings automatically using geocoding services based on the listing address.
  • Geocoding works well for most addresses but can fail for new construction and rural properties, where address databases lag behind. This tool lets you fix those listings yourself in minutes.

Before You Begin

⚠️ This tool applies to your featured listings only — the listings you or your team manage in the platform. Map locations for IDX listings from other brokers come from the originating MLS data and can't be edited manually. If another broker's listing is mapped incorrectly on your site, contact Support or the MLS.

No special permissions are required. Any user with access to the Listings section can update map marker positions.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to the Client Admin Area (CAA) and go to Listings in the main navigation.
  2. On the Featured Listings page, find your listing and use the Search by MLS® # field if needed.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the Action column to edit the listing.
  4. Scroll to the Update Map Marker Position section. Use the zoom controls and drag the map until the correct location is near the center.
  5. Click the map to place the pin on the listing's location. Drag the pin to fine-tune if needed.
  6. Click Click here to save when finished in the yellow box below the map.
  7. If available, adjust the Street View position and angle for the best display on your listing detail page. Street View isn't available in all areas, particularly rural locations.
  8. Return to the main Listings page and check the Mapped? column — a red X marks any listing that still isn't mapped. Repeat these steps for each one.

Best Practices

  • Zoom in before placing the pin. Placing the marker at a low zoom level can put it hundreds of feet off; zoom to street level for accuracy.
  • Set the Street View angle while you're there. A listing photo facing the wrong direction (or a neighbor's house) undercuts an otherwise polished listing page.
  • Recheck pins after feed updates. MLS feed updates can overwrite a manually placed pin, so glance at the Mapped? column and your corrected listings periodically.
  • Confirm the fix on your live site. After saving, view the listing on your website's map search to verify the pin displays where you placed it.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • A listing shows a red X in the Mapped? column.
Automatic geocoding couldn't place the address. Follow the steps above to place the pin manually.
  • The pin is placed correctly in the editor but appears wrong on your website.
There may be a short delay before the update displays. Refresh the page and clear your browser cache first. If the location is still wrong after that, contact Support.
  • An IDX listing from another broker is mapped incorrectly.
These locations come from the originating MLS data and can't be edited manually. Contact Support or the MLS to report the issue.
  • Street View is missing or shows the wrong angle.
Street View coverage isn't universal, rural areas often lack imagery. If imagery exists, use the Street View controls in the listing editor to adjust the position and angle.

FAQs

  • Why isn't my listing showing on the map at all?
The address likely couldn't be geocoded automatically which is common for new construction and rural properties. Place the pin manually using the steps above.
  • Can my manual pin placement get overwritten?
It's possible — MLS feed updates may override a manually placed pin. If a listing's location reverts, re-place the pin using the steps above.
